wall region of plane channel flow The structure of turbulent boundary layers in the References ml#ref-list-1 here the box at the top right-hand corner of the article or click Receive free email alerts when new articles cite this article-sign up in The flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a plane channel is simulated numerically with the use of a computational code for the numerical integration of the Navier–Stokes equations, based on a mixed spectral-finite difference technique. A turbulent-flow database representing the turbulent statistically steady state of the velocity field through 10 viscous time units is assembled at friction Reynolds number Re t Z180 and the coherent structures of turbulence are extracted from the fluctuating portion of the velocity field using the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique. The temporal evolution of a number of the most energetic POD modes is represented, showing the existence of dominant flow structures elongated in the streamwise direction whose shape is altered owing to the interaction with quasi-streamwise, bean-shaped turbulent-flow modes. This process of interaction is responsible for the gradual disruption of the streamwise modes of the flow.

Numerical Simulation of Free Surface in the Case of Plane Turbulent Wall Jets in Shallow Tailwater

Wall-jet flow is an important flow field in hydraulic engineering, and its applications include flow from the bottom outlet of dams and sluice gates. In this paper, the plane turbulent wall jet in shallow tailwater is simulated by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the standard  turbulence closure model. This study aims to explore the ability of a time splitting method ...

Numerical Study of Reynolds Number Effects on Flow over a Wall-Mounted Cube in a Channel Using LES

Turbulent flow over wall-mounted cube in a channel was investigated numerically using Large Eddy Simulation. The Selective Structure Function model was used to determine eddy viscosity that appeared in the subgrid scale stress terms in momentum equations. Studies were carried out for the flows with Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 40000. To evaluate the computational results, data was compa...

تحلیل نحوه پخش نانوذرات در جریان جابه‌جایی مختلط آشفته نانوسیال آب و اکسید مس

In the present paper, turbulent convection of CuO-Water Nanofluid in a vertical channel is investigated numerically. In order to simulate the flow, the fluid is considered as a continuous phase while the discrete nanoparticles are dispersed through it. The dispersion of CuO nanoparticles in different flow conditions are studied in order to find the effective mechanisms of particles dispersion i...

Simultaneous estimation of heat fluxes applied to the wall of a channel with turbulent flow using inverse analysis

The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field,   two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...
